Faculty
At the Orcas Island Writers Festival, we pride ourselves on teachers who are both critically acclaimed authors and experienced teachers of writing. For 2010, we are pleased to welcome as faculty David Jauss, Sue Silverman, and Nance Van Winckel.
David Jauss:
Recent works by David Jauss include Black Maps and Crimes of Passion. The recipient of the AWP Award for Short Fiction, the Fleur-de-Lis Poetry Prize, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and a James A. Michener Fellowship, among other awards, he teaches at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and in the low-residency MFA in Writing Program at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Sue Silverman:
Sue Silverman is the author of two memoirs and Fearless Confessions: A Writers Guide to Memoir. Her essays have won contests with Hotel Amerika, Mid-American Review, and Water~Stone Review. She teaches in the MFA in Writing Program at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. A more complete biography can be found on the Sue Silverman page.
Nance Van Winckel:
Nance Van Winckel’s recent works include No Starling, After a Spell, and Curtain Creek Farm. Nance has received two National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowships and a Pushcart Prize, among others. Nance teaches in the MFA in Writing Program at Eastern Washington University and the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing Program.
